Andrew de Vera knew he wanted to enter a health care field, but it was by accident that he decided to study respiratory care.
"I was turning in an application for another program when I stumbled upon Denise (Kruckenberg's) office," he said. "I spoke with her about the program, and she got me very interested and told me to apply. Later in the year I got a letter of acceptance, and here I am today."
It was a wise decision, and de Vera now plans to graduate in 2010 with his associate's degree. He then plans to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist.
"COD has given me a quality education at an affordable price and the opportunity to get into a career I enjoy doing," de Vera said. "I've always enjoyed taking care of others who are sick and in need, and respiratory care is a great field to get into.
"Denise and Charlie (Vanderwarf) are great instructors. They have really pushed the program forward into the new generation."
