Nov. 3, 2009 – Performances at the College of DuPage McAninch Arts Center are supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, which recently provided the MAC with a $20,300 grant for 2009-2010 programming.
The MAC’s 2009-2010 season will include more than 50 performances, ten Gahlberg Gallery art exhibits and ten SchoolStage programs, as well as 13 events produced by the College’s resident professional ensembles, The Buffalo Theatre Ensemble, New Philharmonic and DuPage Opera Theatre. In addition, more than 75 workshops, master classes, artist receptions, special lectures, and pre- and post-performance discussions will combine with other MAC outreach initiatives to provide additional opportunities for the community to access the performing arts.
The MAC’s designation as an Illinois Arts Council Partner in Excellence requires superior arts programming, outstanding management and fiscal stability. In addition, Partner in Excellence designees must engage underserved and multicultural audiences and include a significant number of Illinois artists and performers in their line-up.
For 23 seasons, the MAC has provided the DuPage and Chicago areas with music, dance, theater and other performances in multiple genres. Last season, Illinois Arts Council Funding assisted the MAC in reaching 59,444 patrons, including 9,407 children who attended SchoolStage programs. The 2008-2009 season included 163 performances of 57 separate plays and concerts, as well as 10 art exhibits. Nearly half of the season’s 665 professional artists were Illinois residents. In addition, the Illinois Council of Orchestras named the New Philharmonic “2009 Professional Orchestra of the Year.”
