MAC Staff Recreates Living Room for Cleve Carney Collection Exhibition at Elmhurst Art Museum

Oct. 6, 2009 – The McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage is pleased to sponsor Elmhurst Art Museum’s exhibition of Contemporary Works from the Cleve Carney Collection, on display now through Monday, Jan. 3.

As part of the partnership, MAC staff members Jon Gantt and Don Hood spent several days conceptualizing and constructing an exact replica of Carney’s living room as a staging spot for many of the exhibit’s most prominent pieces. The detailed room is replete with windows, fireplace and moldings.

Carney, a Glen Ellyn philanthropist, art collector and long-time friend of the MAC, has an extensive collection of contemporary art, including works by Roxy Paine, Richard Rezac and Jean-Luc Moulène. While friends, family and visitors have enjoyed seeing the works in his home for years, this is the first public viewing of his collection.

Guest curator and Museum Board member Deborah Lovely came up with the idea to recreate Carney’s living room, because the intimate setting of Carney’s living room is so reflective of the collector’s eye for art.

Elmhurst Art Museum is open 10 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturday; 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays; and 1 to 4 p.m. Fridays and Sundays. The Museum is closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

For more information, call the museum at (630) 834-0202 or visit the Elmhurst Art Museum Web site.
