Oct. 23, 2009 – The U.S. Department of Justice recently awarded College of DuPage a $6,988.50 grant to support the purchase of 27 bulletproof vests for the COD Police Department.
The new vests will replace current models to comply with national law enforcement safety standards. College of DuPage was last awarded US DOJ funding for this purpose in Fiscal Year 2004.
Since the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998 was authorized, 11,900 law enforcement jurisdictions have benefitted from $173 million to acquire 450,000 vests. Eight Illinois community colleges were among the most recent recipients of this grant.
