Oct. 15, 2009 – Forty high school students from District 502 were selected to receive the first-ever Presidential Scholars award, which includes a full-tuition scholarship for 64 credit hours at the College.

The Scholars also receive acceptance into the C.O.D. Honors Program and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, as well as a Presidential Scholars notation on their diploma or transcript after completion of 15 hours of Honors coursework.

“Recognizing the academic abilities and potential of these students is a high priority of the College, as we continue to reach out to serve a growing and diverse population in the region,” said Glenda Gallisath, associate vice president for Academic Affairs. “College of DuPage will provide a strong academic foundation for these students as they continue their education at a baccalaureate level and beyond.”

To be considered for the Presidential Scholars award, students must have a high school GPA of 3.5/4.0 or higher, an ACT composite score of 27 or above, or a class standing in the top 10 percent of his or her graduating class.

“We’re very proud of our first class of Presidential Scholars,” Gallisath said. “For the 2010-2011 academic year, the College will increase the number of Presidential Scholars to 50 and will also award 20 similar scholarships for qualifying adult students age 24 and older.”
