C.O.D. Alert, Safety Systems Ready for Use

By Brian Kleemann

October 13, 2009 - College of DuPage students and staff can now sign up for Rave Alert and Rave Guardian, two new broadcasting alert and personal safety systems.

Rave Alert uses e-mails, text messages, voice messages and RSS feeds to notify subscribers of both emergency and non-emergency situations, such as weather-related class cancellations. Rave Guardian is a mobile phone application that notifies the campus police department of an emergency.

College of DuPage is one of nearly 150 institutions of higher education across the country using mobile safety applications provided by Rave Wireless.

“College of DuPage chose Rave Wireless because it offers a complete security solution with the features we desired,” said Chuck Currier, C.O.D. vice president for Information Technology. “Rave Alert not only provides notifications via text message, e-mail and RSS feed, but it also allows us to send recorded voice messages directly to student cell phones. Our investment in Rave Guardian further demonstrates our commitment to student safety.”

Subscribers must use their e-mail address assigned by College of DuPage when registering for the system. Alerts then can be configured by the subscriber to go to any e-mail address, including the subscriber’s own personal e-mail account.

In addition, accounts from the former Cruiser Alerts system will not be converted into Rave Alert.
