The McAninch Arts Center (MAC) offers experiences in dance, music and theater. Through live performances, the MAC brings the connection between artist and student to life.

SchoolStage 2012-13: This season Schoolstage performances are on the road!

The McAninch Arts Center will undergo a renovation, but our SchoolStage series will continue. The 2012-2013 SchoolStage season offers six productions, scheduled on the COD campus and at the beautiful Tivoli Theatre in Downers Grove.

Tickets to SchoolStage performances are $6, with one free teacher/chaperone ticket for every 20 paid tickets.
 
 
A Christmas Carol
Tuesday, Nov. 27, 10 a.m.
Location: College of DuPage-Building K
Grades: K – 8th

Join us for the story of Ebenezer Scrooge’s chance to redeem himself and his future, with the help of Christmas Past, Present and Future. A timeless story of everyone’s ability to change and to forgive with an appeal for all ages. Produced by students of College of DuPage Theater Department.

The Ugly Duckling and The Tortoise and the Hare
Thursday, Nov. 29, 9:45 and 11:30 a.m.
Location: Tivoli Theatre, Downers Grove
Grades: PreK – 3rd

The classic tales The Ugly Duckling and The Tortoise and the Hare are brought to life without words. Dazzling visuals, dance and music ranging from classical to jazz to pop, bring these two tales into a new and brilliant light. Light Wire Theater uses cutting edge technology combined with dance to create moving sculptures that glow in the dark through the use of their signature electroluminescent puppetry. Length: 60 minutes


Walk On: The Story of Rosa Parks
Wednesday, Feb. 6, 9:45 and 11:30 a.m.
Location: Tivoli Theatre, Downers Grove
Grades: 3rd – 8th

Walk On: The Story of Rosa Parks weaves together music and drama bringing to life the story of Rosa from her childhood in rural Alabama to her famous decision to “sit down and be counted.” The play paints a portrait of a complex woman who had to find reconciliation within herself in order to become an effective Civil Rights leader. Exciting and inspirational, Walk On shows how the determination of one individual can make a difference. Length: 60 minutes


Going on a Bear Hunt
Monday, Feb. 25, 9:45 and 11:30 a.m.

Award-winning book We're Going On A Bear Hunt is brought vividly and noisily to the stage in this
fun-filled adaptation with music. Join the adventure to find a bear and wade through the gigantic swishy swashy grass, the splishy splashy river and the thick oozy, squelchy mud! Expect catchy songs, interactive scenes and plenty of hands-on adventure, plus a few special surprises! Length: 60 minutes


My Heart in a Suitcase
Monday, April 8, 9:45 and 11:30 a.m.

In Dec. 1938, 10,000 Jewish children without their parents were put on the Kindertransport out of Nazi Germany to find safe haven in England. Based on the autobiography by Anne Lehman Fox, My Heart in a Suitcase chronicles her escape and experiences as a 12-year old on the Kindertransport. This is a gripping, poignant and dramatic tribute to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit to triumph over unimaginable hardship. Length: 60 minutes


Love’s Labour’s Lost
Tuesday, April 9, 10 a.m.
Location: College of DuPage-Building K
Grades: 9th – 12th

King Ferdinand and his men take an oath to devote their lives to scholarship for three years, without the company of women. But they didn't anticipate a visit from the beautiful Princess of France and her three gorgeous ladies-in-waiting. Will the oath hold when the beautiful women arrive for their diplomatic mission or will the men succumb to the game of love? Wordplay and wit make this one of Shakespeare’s most clever of comedies revealing trials and obstacles as they find their path to true love. Produced by students of College of DuPage Theater Department.

A Thousand Cranes
Tuesday, April 30, 10 a.m.

A Thousand Cranes tells the true story of Sadako Sasaki, a Japanese girl who was two years old when exposed to radiation from the bombing of Hiroshima. An ancient legend promises anyone who folds a thousand paper cranes will be granted a wish, such as long life or recovery from illness. Sadako began to fold cranes at the age of 12 when she became ill with “radiation sickness.” She folded 644 before her death; her friends folded 356 more to make one thousand. This plays shares Sadako’s story who realizes her wish is no longer for herself but for peace for all children. Her life continues to inspire world peace through a statue in Hiroshima Peace Park which features Sadako holding a paper crane with the inscription “This is our cry. This is our prayer. For peace in the world.” Length: 60 minutes
